Common causes

Lower leg pain is not always related to an underlying condition. It may be caused by:

  • Strain
  • Contusion or bruise


Self Treatment

Self-treatment: Self- care steps that may be helpful in some less- serious cases:

  • Take adequate rest so as to relieve the muscle tension. Lifting the leg above the body level can also be beneficial
  • Ice packs can be used to reduce pain
  • Wrap elastic bandage firmly to reduce pain and inflammation


See a doctor if you notice:

  • Severe discomfort
  • Leg swelling
  • Redness
  • Skin changes
